What is a Service User Number?

A Service User Number, commonly referred to as a SUN, allows banks to identify each collecting organisation. A SUN is required to submit directly to Bacs.

Each SUN is unique to an organisation collecting by Direct Debit. It is included on all communication with Bacs, and is stored with each collections record.

The SUN enables banks to determine the name to display on a customer’s bank statement, and identifies the collecting organisation if an indemnity claim arises.
